Organizations have begun linking their success in such areas as employee satisfaction, reliability, employee retention, service and overall goal achievement (personal and professional) directly to qualities associated with improved and effective communication.  And DISC is a tool intended to improve communication.  Would it help if team members could readily recognize other team member’s needs or the needs of your customers? DiSC does just that!  DiSC is designed to help people understand themselves and others better.  We have all had the experience of finding it so easy to work with some of our team members, customers and managers.  Yet we have probably also found it so very difficult to work with others.  Why is that?  Simply put, people are different and we need to take into account those differences whether we are working to accomplish a team goal or helping a client with a solution.  All of us have both shared and different experiences, preferences, motivators and in a single word – styles. DISC is designed to help participants uncover the not so well hidden clues that help us recognize how a client or team member’s style may be different from our own.  Once this knowledge is available, we can adapt our style to the needs and preferences of our team member or client, or for that matter, our manager or a family member.  An objective of DISC is to provide  a common language that people can use to discuss the differences and similarities and to be able to share this information with one another.  The result is more effective communication which leads to better teamwork, job satisfaction, goal achievement and customer service and is why thousands, (tens of thousands) of organizations are using DiSC.

Understand Yourself and Co-Workers with DiSC Workplace

Our program begins with helping the participant learn about their own behavior, which makes sense because it’s hard to understand others without having a strong understanding of ourselves first as we serve as the baseline for viewing all others. By learning about ourselves, how others perceive us and how to recognize the styles of others, we begin realizing how sometimes small changes can cause other people to be more comfortable with us.   

Put another way, learning about ourselves help us better understand the lenses in which we see the world.  During this process we will also begin developing insight into how others perceive us.  We quickly learn that how we perceive ourselves is not always the way that others may see us. Next our program shifts to helping our participants in using DiSC® as a tool to help them understand other people  through recognizing their style and how we can work more effectively with them.  All along reminding our participants that  their clients and team members may have different goals, motivations and perhaps even fears that may affect their decision making and how we work together or the expectation a client may have towards our service or product. 

To accomplish our objective – effective communication – we need to take these differences into consideration. At this point in the program, it’s also a great time to remind everyone that these differences are not right or wrong, not necessarily better or worse, rather just different and all these very differences that make us better through diversity.
